How to Take Your Measurements

Accurate body measurements are the most reliable way to choose the correct swimwear size. The measurements below correspond directly to the sizing data used in every product listing on solkinis.com. Take your measurements without clothing, standing naturally upright.

1

Bust Measurement

Wrap the measuring tape horizontally around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape parallel to the ground. Do not pull tightly — the tape should sit snugly but with room to breathe. Record this number in centimetres or inches.

2

Underbust Measurement (for bandeau & underwire tops)

Measure directly underneath your bust, where the band of a bra would sit. Keep the tape level and firm but not tight. This measurement is used specifically for underwire bikini top and bandeau top sizing.

3

Waist Measurement

Measure at your natural waist — the narrowest point of your torso, typically 2 to 3 cm above your navel. Do not hold your breath or suck in; measure at your normal, relaxed posture.

4

Hip Measurement

Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, usually 20 to 23 cm below your natural waist. Stand with your feet together and keep the tape parallel to the floor. This measurement determines your bottom and one-piece sizing.

5

Torso Length (for one-pieces & tankinis)

With a flexible tape, measure from the top of your shoulder, down over your bust, through your crotch, and back up to the same shoulder point. This full-loop torso measurement helps determine whether a one-piece swimsuit will fit your body length correctly.

Measurement tips: Use a flexible fabric or dressmaker's tape, not a rigid ruler. Ask someone to help for the most accurate readings. If you are between two sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort — swimwear fabric naturally has stretch. All size ranges in the tables below correspond to these five measurement points.

Bikini Top Size Guide

Bikini tops at Solkinis are sized by bust measurement. For underwire and bandeau styles, underbust measurement also applies. Select the tab for your preferred style below. All measurements are given in centimetres (cm) and inches (in).

Triangle and halter tops are adjustable via tie strings. If your bust measurement falls between two sizes, you can size down if you prefer a snugger fit or size up for more coverage. The tie strings allow for individual adjustment on both sides.

Bandeau tops rely on both bust and underbust measurements to stay in place. If your bust and underbust measurements fall into different size brackets, use the underbust measurement to guide your size selection, as the band tension determines the fit and security of the top.

Underwire tops are sized using both cup volume and band circumference. The bra size equivalents shown above are approximate references only, as swimwear cut and stretch fabric behave differently from lingerie. If you are between cup sizes, size up for comfort. Bra sizing standards differ slightly between countries; use your body measurements as the primary reference.

Bikini Bottom Size Guide

Bikini bottoms are sized by hip and waist measurements. If your waist and hip measurements give different size results, we recommend choosing based on your hip measurement, then adjusting the waist using tie-side styles where available. Select your preferred bottom style below.

Size Label Waist (cm) Waist (in) Hips (cm) Hips (in) US / CA UK / AU

Standard and full-coverage bottoms are cut for a comfortable mid-rise fit. If you are between sizes, size up for full coverage or size down for a snugger, more secure fit. Tie-side styles can be adjusted for both waist and hip comfort.

High-waist bottoms sit at or above your natural waist. Use your natural waist measurement — not your hip or low-waist measurement — as the primary sizing reference. The waistband on high-waist styles does not have stretch room equivalent to the hip area, so accurate natural waist measurement is important.

Cheeky-cut and thong styles are designed to sit lower on the hip with less fabric coverage at the rear. These styles fit approximately one size smaller than standard cuts. If you typically wear a medium in a standard bottom, you may prefer a large in a cheeky cut for equivalent coverage and comfort. Check each product listing for individual fit notes.

One-Piece & Tankini Size Guide

One-piece swimsuits and tankinis require matching across bust, waist, and hip measurements, as well as your torso length for longer styles. When your measurements fall across multiple size categories, use the largest measurement to select your size, then refer to the fit notes below regarding stretch allowance.

Size Label Bust (cm) Waist (cm) Hips (cm) Torso (cm) US / CA UK / AU EU
XS 76 – 80 60 – 64 84 – 88 140 – 148 XS / 0–2 6–8 32–34

XXL 105 – 112 89 – 96 113 – 120 174 – 184 XXL / 18–20 20–22 48–50
Torso length is particularly important for one-piece sizing. A swimsuit that is too short in the torso will pull down at the shoulders and restrict movement. If your torso measurement is at the upper end of a size range, size up. Individual product listings state whether the style has built-in tummy control, bust support, or removable padding.

XXL 105 – 112 89 – 96 58 – 63 XXL / 18–20 20–22
Tankini tops are sold as a set with matching bottoms. The top is sized by bust and waist; the bottom is sized by waist and hip. If your measurements result in different sizes for the top and bottom, each piece can be sized individually using the bikini bottoms table above. Tankini top lengths listed above are approximate, as finished lengths vary by style and design details.

Cover-Up & Beach Dress Size Guide

Cover-ups, kaftans, sarongs, beach shirts, and wrap skirts are sized generously to layer comfortably over swimwear. Sizing is based on bust and hip measurements. Where a cover-up is available in a loose or oversized cut, this is noted in the individual product description. Lengths given below are measured from shoulder to hem for dresses and kaftans.

Size Label Bust (cm) Hip (cm) Approx. Dress Length (cm) US / CA UK / AU EU

Cover-up sizing ranges are broader by design. Wrap skirts and sarongs are one-size-fits-most, as they fasten with ties. Crochet cover-ups are open-weave and sized for visual coverage only — they are not designed for opacity or structural support. Length variations for different cover-up styles are detailed on each individual product page.

Swimwear Fit Guide

This guide offers style-matching suggestions based on common fit preferences. These are recommendations only — not restrictions. Any size and any body can wear any style. Use this section as a starting point if you are unsure which cut of swimwear might feel most comfortable for you.

Bust-Forward Fit

If your bust measurement is noticeably larger than your hip measurement, look for tops with adjustable straps, underwire support, or tie closures, which allow independent sizing and support adjustment. Avoid strapless styles without side boning for everyday active wear in water.

Underwire Tops Halter Ties Padded Tops Scoop Neck
Hip-Forward Fit

If your hip measurement is significantly larger than your bust, prioritise bottom sizing and use tie-side or adjustable waist styles that accommodate the difference. High-waist bottoms create a balanced visual line and offer more coverage across the hip area.

High-Waist Bottoms Tie-Side Styles Ruched Back Full Coverage
Long Torso Fit

If your torso measurement is at the higher end of our range, one-piece swimsuits with longer torso cuts or deep-V designs work best, as they avoid the pulling sensation of short-cut one-pieces. Tankinis are also ideal as the top and bottom sizing can be set independently.

Longline Tankinis Deep-V One-Pieces Open-Back Styles Size Up in One-Piece
Short Torso Fit

If you have a shorter torso or your torso measurement falls at the lower end of a size range, choose one-piece styles marked as shorter-torso or classic-length. Alternatively, triangle bikinis and bandeau tops with separate bottoms allow you to find the right torso proportions independently.

Triangle Bikinis Bandeau Tops Cropped Tankini Tops Classic-Length One-Piece
Tummy Coverage Preference

Our one-piece and tankini ranges include styles with built-in ruching and draping across the midsection. Product listings clearly note where tummy control lining or structured panels are incorporated. High-waist bottoms paired with a bikini top also provide mid-section coverage without a full one-piece silhouette.

Ruched One-Piece Tummy Control Lined High-Waist Bottoms Full-Coverage Tankini
Between Two Sizes

If your measurements consistently fall between two size brackets, our general recommendation is to size up for one-piece swimsuits and size down for triangle or tie-style bikinis. For bottoms specifically, size based on hips rather than waist. If you are still uncertain, contact us before ordering — we are happy to advise.

Fabric, Stretch & Care Information

Understanding how a fabric behaves directly affects sizing. Swimwear fabric stretches to fit — knowing the stretch percentage of a fabric helps you understand whether to size up or down. Full fabric composition for every product is listed on its individual product page.

Nylon / Polyamide Blend

The most common swimwear fabric in our range. Soft, chlorine-resistant, and quick-drying. Provides moderate stretch — approximately 20 to 30% elongation — making it forgiving across a range of measurements. Retains colour and shape well over time.

StretchModerate — 20–30%
Size RecommendationFollow measurement table exactly
Chlorine ResistanceHigh
Polyester / Spandex Blend

Widely used in structured styles including underwire tops and tummy-control one-pieces. Higher spandex content gives greater stretch and recovery — approximately 35 to 50% elongation. Holds structure and support across extended wear in water. Excellent UV protection in higher-density weaves.

StretchHigh — 35–50%
Size RecommendationCan size down slightly if preferred
UV ProtectionModerate to high
Crochet / Open-Weave

Used exclusively in cover-up styles. Crochet cover-ups are not swimwear — they are worn over swimwear as a beach layer only. They are not lined, not water-resistant, and not designed for structural support. Sizing is generous and approximate. Refer to the cover-up size table for guidance.

StretchVaries — typically generous
Size RecommendationSize up for more coverage
Suitable for SwimmingNo — cover-up only
Lined Swimwear Fabric

Several styles in our one-piece and bikini bottom ranges include a separate inner lining layer for opacity and comfort. Lined fabrics have slightly less stretch than unlined equivalents due to the dual-layer construction. If you are between sizes in a lined style, size up for a more comfortable fit.

StretchLower than unlined equivalents
Size RecommendationSize up if between sizes
OpacityHigh — fully opaque when wet

General Swimwear Care

Proper care extends the life of your swimwear and helps it retain its shape and size over time. Refer to the care label sewn into your specific garment for material-specific instructions. The general care guidelines below apply to most nylon and polyester swimwear in our range.

Hand wash cold Rinse in cold water after use Do not wring — lay flat to dry Avoid direct prolonged sunlight when storing Do not tumble dry Do not use bleach or fabric softener Do not iron

Size Guide FAQ

The questions below address the most common sizing queries received by our customer support team. If your question is not answered here, contact us at customercare@solkinis.com or visit our full FAQ page.

If your measurements sit between two size brackets, the general guidance is: size up for one-piece swimsuits and structured tops to ensure full coverage and unrestricted movement; size down for triangle and tie-style bikinis where the ties allow for independent adjustment. For bikini bottoms, prioritise your hip measurement over your waist measurement when choosing between sizes. If you remain uncertain, contact us with your measurements and the specific product you are interested in — we will advise the most suitable size.

Size labelling varies between countries and brands, so we do not recommend selecting a size purely based on what you wear in other stores. Our products are labelled XS through XXL, and each label corresponds to specific body measurement ranges (shown in all tables on this page). The conversion tables on this page show the approximate equivalent in US, UK, Australian, and European sizes, but these are references only. Your body measurements are the most reliable way to select the correct size at Solkinis.

Australian clothing sizes are approximately 2 numeric sizes larger than UK sizes and use even numbers only. For example, a UK size 10 is an Australian size 10 (the labelling is the same for most categories). However, Australian bra sizing follows a different band/cup system compared to UK and US bra sizing — this is particularly relevant for underwire tops. Our conversion table shows the Australian numeric equivalent for each size label. We recommend using your body measurements in centimetres rather than relying solely on your regular Australian tag size, as cut and stretch vary between brands.

Yes. UK customers purchasing from our store online have a statutory 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Our store return policy offers 30 days from delivery, which exceeds the statutory minimum. Whichever period gives you more time applies. Your statutory rights are not reduced or overridden by our store policy. For full return conditions and how to initiate a return, see our Refund & Return Policy.

Yes. When you purchase from Solkinis and you are located in Australia, the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) guarantees apply to your transaction. Under the ACL, goods must be of acceptable quality, match their description, and be fit for their intended purpose. If an item you receive has a major defect, is significantly different from how it was described, or does not do what it was represented to do, you may be entitled to a remedy — including a refund, replacement, or repair — independent of our store return policy. For change-of-mind returns (including size issues), our 30-day return window and conditions as described in our Refund Policy apply.

Returns for size issues are accepted within 30 days of delivery, subject to the conditions set out in our Refund & Return Policy. To protect hygiene standards for all customers, swimwear must be returned unworn, unwashed, and with the hygiene protective liner still in place and intact. Items returned without the liner in place or showing signs of wear cannot be accepted. We do not currently offer direct exchanges — returned items are refunded, and you may place a new order in the correct size. Contact us at customercare@solkinis.com to initiate a return.

Our swimwear is designed to run true to the measurement ranges listed in the tables on this page. We do not apply a blanket "runs small" or "runs large" label across all products because fit varies by style, fabric, and cut. Some individual products may include specific fit notes on the product page — for example, "this style runs slightly small; we recommend sizing up." Always check the individual product page for style-specific fit notes before ordering. If you are unsure, use your body measurements and the size tables on this page as your primary reference.

To measure your torso, start at the top of your shoulder (at the point where your shoulder and neck meet). Run the measuring tape down over the front of your body, across your bust and stomach, then under your crotch, and back up the rear of your body to the same starting point on your shoulder. This full-loop measurement gives your torso length, which is listed in the one-piece size table above. It is easiest to do this measurement with help from another person. If your torso measurement is near the top of a size range, we recommend sizing up in one-pieces.
