Cookie Policy
Explained Plainly
This policy tells you exactly which cookies and tracking technologies Solkinis uses on solkinis.com, why we use them, how long they remain active, and — where legally required — how you can change your preferences at any time.
What Are Cookies
Before explaining how Solkinis uses cookies, we want to make sure you understand exactly what they are and what they are not.
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your browser or device when you visit it. Cookies are not programs, they cannot carry viruses, and they cannot access or retrieve information that is already stored on your device. They are simply small data files that remember information about your visit — such as items you placed in your cart or your preferred language — so that the website can function correctly and so that your experience is consistent between visits.
In addition to cookies, websites like ours may also use similar tracking technologies, including:
- Web beacons (also called "pixel tags"): Tiny invisible images embedded in a webpage or email that signal when the page or email was opened. We may use these to understand whether marketing emails we send you are being opened.
- Local storage objects (LSOs): Data stored directly within your browser's local storage area rather than as a traditional cookie file. Shopify uses these in some cases to improve site performance.
- Session storage: Similar to local storage but cleared as soon as you close your browser tab. Used only for temporary session data during a single browsing session.
Throughout this policy, when we refer to "cookies," we are using that term to cover all of the above technologies unless we state otherwise.
Cookies can be classified by how long they remain active on your device:
- Session cookies: These exist only for as long as your browser remains open. When you close your browser, session cookies are automatically deleted. We use session cookies to keep you logged in while you browse, to maintain your shopping cart during a single visit, and to remember your preferences during checkout.
- Persistent cookies: These remain on your device even after you close your browser, until they reach their set expiry date or you manually delete them. We use persistent cookies to remember whether you have agreed to our cookie policy, to recognise you when you return to our site, and to enable longer-term analytics tracking. The duration of each persistent cookie we use is listed in Section 8 of this policy.
Cookies can also be classified by who sets them:
- First-party cookies: Set directly by Solkinis (solkinis.com). These are the most fundamental cookies and are needed for the website to work correctly.
- Third-party cookies: Set by external services that we have integrated into our website, such as Shopify, Google Analytics, and advertising platforms. We have listed all third-party services and their cookie policies in Section 7 of this document.
How We Use Cookies at Solkinis
Solkinis operates solkinis.com on the Shopify platform. Cookies on our website serve four distinct purposes, and we are transparent about each one. We never use cookies to collect information that is not relevant to running this online swimwear store.
Our Four Cookie Categories at a Glance
Expand each category below for a full explanation, or use the table in Section 8 for a complete duration reference.
Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for solkinis.com to operate. They enable core functionality — including secure browsing, shopping cart management, and checkout processing. Because they are technically required, you cannot opt out of them without completely disabling cookies in your browser (which would prevent the website from functioning).
Because Solkinis is built on the Shopify platform, Shopify sets certain strictly necessary cookies on our behalf. These cookies are controlled by Shopify Inc. (a company headquartered in Ottawa, Canada) under its own privacy framework. Their sole purpose is to allow the store to operate correctly for customers across all four countries we ship to.
Functional Cookies
Functional cookies make your experience on solkinis.com more consistent and personalised. They remember choices you have made — such as your country, currency, and whether you dismissed a notification — so you do not have to repeat those actions each time you visit. These cookies are optional and can be disabled through your browser or through our cookie preference controls.
We use functional cookies to personalise your experience based on where you are shopping from. Because we ship to four countries — the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom — it is important that the website displays the correct currency, applicable shipping information, and relevant content for your region.
If you choose to disable functional cookies, our website will still operate, but you may notice that the site does not remember your country/currency selection between visits, and you may be shown the cookie consent banner repeatedly.
Analytics Cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with solkinis.com. The data we collect through analytics is used solely to improve our website, our product pages, and the overall shopping experience. We do not use analytics data to profile individual customers or share it with third parties for advertising purposes.
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect aggregated data about how visitors use our website. This includes which pages are viewed most frequently, how long visitors spend on each page, where they navigate from and to, and whether a visit results in a purchase. This information is used only to identify improvements to the website and the products we carry.
We have enabled IP anonymisation within our Google Analytics setup, which means your IP address is truncated before any data is processed, and Google cannot identify you by IP address. We do not upload any additional customer data (such as email addresses or names) to Google Analytics.
Marketing & Advertising Cookies
Marketing cookies allow us and our advertising partners to show you relevant advertisements for Solkinis products when you visit other websites or social media platforms. These cookies track your activity across websites and are only set on your device with your prior consent in countries where law requires it.
We may use the following advertising platforms to reach customers who have previously visited solkinis.com. These platforms set cookies or use pixel-based tracking to identify that your browser has visited our store, and then display Solkinis swimwear advertisements to you on other platforms.
Third-Party Cookies & External Services
Several third-party services are integrated into solkinis.com to support core functions such as payment processing, order tracking, and site security. Each of these services may set cookies on your device. Below is a complete list of third-party services we use, with links to their own privacy policies so you can review their data practices independently.
Each of the services listed above operates under its own privacy policy and cookie practices. We encourage you to review those policies directly. If you have questions about how a specific third party handles your data, please contact that service directly or contact us at customercare@solkinis.com and we will assist where we can.
Cookie Durations — Complete Reference
This table lists the retention period for every cookie category we use. The durations below are the maximum possible lifespan for each cookie. Session cookies expire automatically when you close your browser, regardless of the time shown.
You can delete any or all cookies stored on your device at any time through your browser settings. Deleting essential cookies will prevent the Solkinis website from functioning correctly during that session.
Your Rights Regarding Cookies — By Country
Your legal rights over cookies depend on where you are located. Solkinis ships to four countries, and we comply with the cookie and data protection laws of each one. Below is a plain-language summary of your rights in each country we serve.
- No federal law currently requires prior consent for cookies; however, opt-out rights apply under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and similar state laws.
- California residents have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal data, which may include advertising cookie data. Our cookie controls provide this opt-out.
- We do not sell your personal data as defined under the CCPA. Our advertising partners may use cookie data for targeted advertising, which constitutes "sharing" under California law — you may opt out via our preference centre.
- Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Texas (TDPSA), and other state laws provide similar opt-out rights for targeted advertising based on cookies.
- For more detail, see our Privacy Policy.
- Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) applies to our collection and use of data through cookies for Canadian customers.
- Under PIPEDA, we must obtain meaningful consent before collecting personal information through non-essential cookies. We obtain this consent through our cookie banner at first visit.
- Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) governs marketing-related tracking. Marketing cookies are only set after you consent.
- You have the right to withdraw consent at any time by adjusting your preferences via our cookie controls or by emailing us at customercare@solkinis.com.
- Canada's proposed Bill C-27 (Consumer Privacy Protection Act) may introduce additional rights when enacted. We will update this policy accordingly.
- The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) govern how we handle personal information collected through cookies from Australian customers.
- Under Australian law, cookies that collect personal information (such as IP addresses linked to analytics data) must be disclosed in our privacy collection notice — which this policy serves as.
- The OAIC (Office of the Australian Information Commissioner) provides oversight. You have the right to access and correct personal information we hold about you, including data collected via cookies.
- You can opt out of analytics and marketing cookies using our preference centre. For essential cookies, no opt-out is possible without disabling cookies in your browser.
- Australia does not currently have a specific "cookie consent" law equivalent to the UK PECR, but collecting personal data without disclosure is prohibited under the APPs. For more information, see our Privacy Policy.
- The UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) apply to our use of cookies for UK-based customers.
- Under PECR, we must obtain your informed, freely given, and unambiguous prior consent before placing any non-essential cookies on your device. Our cookie consent banner handles this.
- You have the right to withdraw consent at any time without disadvantage. Your preferences can be changed at any time via the cookie preference centre linked at the bottom of every page.
- Under the UK GDPR, you have rights to access, rectify, and erase personal data processed via cookies. You can exercise these rights by contacting us at customercare@solkinis.com.
- We follow the ICO's (Information Commissioner's Office) cookie guidance. Any complaint about our cookie practices may be directed to the ICO at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You have several ways to control which cookies are stored on your device. Below is a complete and honest explanation of each method, along with the limitations of each approach.
Every modern web browser allows you to view, manage, and delete cookies. The instructions vary by browser. Below are direct links to cookie management instructions for the most common browsers used by our customers:
- Google Chrome: Manage cookies in Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox: Manage cookies in Firefox
- Apple Safari (Mac & iOS): Manage cookies in Safari
- Microsoft Edge: Manage cookies in Edge
- Samsung Internet (Android): Go to Menu → Settings → Privacy → Manage cookies
In addition to browser settings, the advertising and analytics platforms we use provide their own opt-out mechanisms. These tools allow you to opt out of tracking by that specific platform across all websites — not just Solkinis:
- Google Analytics Opt-out: Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits to any website.
- Google Advertising: Adjust your preferences at Google Ads Settings to control interest-based advertising.
- Meta / Facebook Advertising: Manage your advertising preferences via Facebook Ad Preferences or visit Your Online Choices (UK/Australia).
- Digital Advertising Alliance (US): Opt out of interest-based advertising from multiple companies at aboutads.info.
- Network Advertising Initiative (US): Use the opt-out tool at networkadvertising.org.
- Digital Advertising Alliance Canada: youradchoices.ca
- Your Online Choices (UK & Australia): youronlinechoices.com
Consent & How to Withdraw It
Solkinis respects your right to control how cookies are placed on your device. Here is a clear explanation of how we obtain and manage consent, and how you can change your mind at any time.
First Visit — Cookie Banner
When you visit solkinis.com for the first time, you will see a cookie consent banner. This banner:
- Clearly explains that we use cookies and links to this policy for full details.
- Gives you a genuine choice — you can accept all cookies, reject optional cookies, or customise your preferences by category.
- Does not pre-tick optional cookie categories. Your consent to optional cookies must be given actively, not assumed.
- Does not make access to the website conditional on accepting optional cookies. You can browse and purchase from Solkinis with only strictly necessary cookies active.
- Only loads marketing and analytics cookies after you have provided consent, in countries where prior consent is legally required (including the United Kingdom).
Withdrawing or Changing Your Consent
You can change your cookie preferences at any time. There are three ways to do this:
- Cookie preference centre: Use the cookie preference controls that appear in the banner footer or site settings to adjust which optional cookie categories are active.
- Email us: Contact us at customercare@solkinis.com and we will provide guidance on disabling specific cookies or will assist you directly.
- Browser settings: Delete cookies directly through your browser settings (see Section 10 above). Note that this will also delete the cookie that records your consent choice, so the banner will reappear on your next visit.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdrew it. We will not treat you differently for declining optional cookies — you will still have full access to our website, products, and checkout.
cookieconsent_status. This record expires after one year, at which point we will ask for your preferences again. We retain consent records as part of our compliance obligations.
Children & Minors
Solkinis sells women's adult swimwear exclusively. Our website is not directed at, designed for, or intended to be used by children or minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information through cookies or any other means from individuals under the age of 16.
In the United States, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) prohibits the collection of personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. In the United Kingdom, the Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code) issued by the ICO establishes standards for services likely to be accessed by children under 18. In Australia, the Privacy Act 1988 includes provisions protecting the privacy of children.
If you believe that a child under the applicable age threshold has submitted personal information to us or has browsed our website without parental supervision, please contact us immediately at customercare@solkinis.com. We will take prompt steps to delete any such data from our records.
Because our products are exclusively adult women's swimwear, we do not anticipate that minors would routinely visit or transact on solkinis.com. However, we remain committed to protecting the privacy of young people and will act promptly if we become aware of any issue.
Updates to This Cookie Policy
We review this Cookie Policy at least once every twelve months, and we update it whenever our cookie practices change — for example, when we add a new third-party service, change analytics provider, or when applicable law changes in any of the countries we ship to.
When we make changes to this policy, we update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and in the bar at the bottom. For significant changes — such as the addition of a new category of cookies or a change to how marketing cookies are handled — we will display a notice on our website and, where we have your contact details and applicable law requires it, notify you by email.
The current version of this policy is always published at solkinis.com/pages/cookie-policy. We archive previous versions and can provide them on request by emailing customercare@solkinis.com.
By continuing to use solkinis.com after a policy update takes effect, you acknowledge the updated policy. If the changes are material and consent is required under applicable law, we will re-request your consent through our cookie banner before activating any new optional cookies.
